David A. Silk obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Iowa, and a Master of Legal Letters (LL.M.) from New York University. After graduation from law school, he worked as the judicial clerk for an appellate court judge.
Mr. Silk has more than 20 years of experience in the practice of immigration law, and handles immigrant and non-immigrant applications before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) and Administrative Appeals Office, as well as deportation proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review and the Board of Immigration Appeals. With respect to applications with the Immigration Service, Mr. Silk handles matters that include family-based immigrant petitions, employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant petitions, immigrant and non-immigrant investor petitions, petitions for non-immigrant status under NAFTA, and applications for naturalization. This includes waivers of inadmissibility, waivers of foreign residency requirements, and advance permission to return to the United States after deportation.
Mr. Silk has extensive immigration litigation experience, and represents clients in both bond and removal proceedings, whether removal charges are based upon criminal convictions or simple immigration violations.
Mr. Silk is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association (South Florida Chapter), and has served on both the Office of the Chief Counsel and Department of State Liaison Committees. He has lectured on the severe effects that criminal convictions can have on non-citizens in front of the Office of the U.S. Public Defender, and recommended considerations to utilize in crafting plea agreements.
Mr. Silk is admitted to practice in the State of Florida, and is a member of the Florida Bar Association, the Iowa Bar Association (inactive), the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association, and the Dade County Bar Association. He is also fluent in Spanish.
